My name is Jennifer and this is the story, so far, of me and my Quaker,
Morgan. As those of you who have quakers know, I am Morgan's slave
for life. His nickname is Morgie. He was hatched sometime around
August 21, 1999. He came home to live with us in October of 1999
when he was about nine weeks old. He was hand fed and incredibly
loveable. HE picked me out at the Parrot shop we were at in
Houston, Texas. We were just there (at the Parrot shop) to kill
some time before going to some friends house nearby when this little
green baby bird, who was on a wooden perch behind us, flutters down to
the ground and waddles over to my shoe and makes this tinny little cry.
The owner's wife picked him up and put him back but he fluttered right
back down and waddled back over to me and back to my shoe. Kay,
the owner's wife, asked me to pick him up, she was with a customer, and
Morgie climbed all the way up to my shoulder and hid in my hair.
THAT WAS IT. I went back the next day they were open and bought
him. But, before that my husband and I both did research on this
new little bird we had never heard of before. We absolutely love
him.
He started talking about a week after we brought him home. His
first words were, of course, step up. After that, it's been a
windfall of words. He has a huge vocabulary. On his own, he
started putting words together and making sentences that actually make
sense.
I taught him the quaker song, to the tune of "I'm a little
teapot" and our friends think it's adorable that he can sing.
Now, in the last several months he has learned to dance to the song.
But, I will let you see for your self. Here are a few
pictures of him. As soon as possible I will add video and sound.
I just need to learn how to get the video I have add sound to the
computer.

This picture is called beautiful pose. Usually I can not get him
to sit still for pictures, but I must have gotten him in a generous mood.
To me, this is a classic quaker pose with his back to the camera, and at
the last minute, he turned his head. |

These are two pictures I took, in a series, of him taking a
bath. He refuses to take a bath in a sink, a tub, or even in a
deeper dish. It has to be this bowl, on the floor with a towel
underneath it. And, if you get in his way and get wet, well, that's
your fault for being soo close. |
|
|
This
picture with him close-up on my chest was one I could not not take.
I love his beautiful, or handsome, face. He is my sweetie and most
of the time, he returns the love!! |
|
|

This one where he is all wet in his cage, he looks totally embarrassed
since I am taking his picture. This is the other way he will take a
bath, in the fresh water we put in his "drinking" water dish.
We of course, then have to change his water, which really makes him mad.
|
|
|

And this last one, for now, is him on top of his cage peeking at something
out of my range of sight. Who knows, it might have been my husband.
He and Morgie have a mutual distrust of each other. Morgie
"punishes" Jason for taking Morgie's time with me away and Jason
distrusts Morgie for all the bites he has gotten from my
"perfect" little green angel.

I have lots of more pictures of him coming up. Please sign the
guest book if you wish to. I'd love to hear your comments of my
little baby.
Words Morgie says:
I love you
Mommy loves Morgie
Good morning!!!
Mommy, quaker want shower
Want shower
Want some water
want some more
Bye-Bye Morgie (which he says over and over until you leave)
Go inside, go inside
Give me kiss (makes kissy noises)
BE QUIET
Don't bite me, don't bite me
Where's daddy
Go see mommy
Go see daddy
Go potty, go potty (this he mostly says to our puppy)
Bad bird
Pretty bird
How's mommy's little quaker
How's mommy's sweet baby
Baaaby
Owwie
Ouch (this is where he usually says don't bite me)
He can also mimic every single sound made in the house, keys in the
door, cabinets opening, light switches being turned on.
I was in and out of the hospital for quite awhile before we got Morgie
and after we got him. As a result I am on lots of medication.
Whenever it is time for me to take my meds, day or night, he makes the
noise of the cap turning, the pills coming out of the bottle, and of my
swallowing the meds!
Quakers are truly the most amazing and addictive birds. I am
absolutely fascinated by my quaker baby.
