Abby is quite a few personalities rolled
into a green pom-pom.We have an open door policy on our cages
whenever someone is there to supervise, but cages are not uncovered until the birds ask to
get up, which is usually around 8 am. Abby will start with tiny whistles, and get louder
and louder, finishing by saying "Hi" in her most coy manner. She's just full of
kisses and cuddles for me when I reach in to get her out, bites and lunges if my boyfriend
gets her out. She doesn't dislike him at all, he's just not the right person first thing
in the morning.
She eats her breakfast which is usually pellets, and then crawls to her cage top to
play and stretch. After clowning around in her bath (splooshy), she accompanies me
upstairs to feed and water the small birds in the bird room, taking a moment to make a few
comments to each one (wish I knew what they talk about).
Once I'm finished, I take her out to the computer room and sit at my desk, where she
promptly climbs up to the top of the large flight that my java birds and in, and she
munches her dried fruits and nuts, and carries on a conversation consisting of "Bic
bic bic" which is the javas' native speech. She loves to cuddle, get her head
scratched, preen and be preened, and she absolutely adores giving kisses and laughing.
Thats her good side. She's hateful toward most anyone but my boyfriend and myself and
will bite( though she did let a complete stranger rub her head yesterday, I was so
stunned). She hates high pitched voices, and will make annoying sounds the entire time
anyone with a high pitched voice is speaking.
She's a picky eater. She has to be removed from the room before I attempt to clean her
cage or rearrange toys, or change her food and water. She loves to argue. She'll attack
the phone if I'm on it. And if she even thinks I'm about to touch another bird, she'll
bite my fingers. I can't wear earrings or necklaces anymore. There is no such thing as
"good clothes" in my closets anymore.
I wouldn't trade her for the world. Sweet and spicy all in one small green bird, and
she kind of reminds me of myself.
