Gravity helps to hold the sticks together in the tree.
This is a typical "cluster" or horizontal nest in a Palm
Tree. As you can see, the limbs rise vertically and outward to allow the
nest to rest on the limbs and trunk.
Each hole represents a pair and has three chambers, one for nesting and
laying eggs and hatching, one for partial grown chicks and the outer one
is for family time, weaning, and fledging birds.
This is a typical vertical Quaker nest. You can see where the nest is
placed within the limbs. There are several cavities (apartments) in this
nest built in a Cypress tree, one built on top of the other.
This nest is UNIQUE! It is built between a couple Palm fronds that
tend to sway in the breeze. This Quaker pair are very good builders. They
were not able to use gravity as a main tool for the initial stick or two.
This shows where the main fronds are. These birds are defying gravity
since the fronds tend to not be as stiff as a tree limb or trunk yet the
nest is intact and has been there for a while without collapse.
This pair should win a prize. I wish I had them in the QuakerVille
aviary. Their Quaker caves would be world renowned for sure.

QuakerVille was started in 1995 and has operated as a
personal non-profit web site since that time. I am experimenting to see
if associating with Amazon will enable me to continue to maintain
QuakerVille as a high volume web site.
The QuakerVille sites are rated G for the entire
family,
including your parrot, to enjoy!
