Max is very beautiful and when he is out with our other bird Stanley, the Quaker, Max is
the center of attention.
Max is VERY snoopy. He just loves to explore
EVERYTHING around him. He will spend the entire day visiting places in the room where he
can have fun and get into trouble.
Photos can't do this bird justice. This is one of the most absolute bright and
colorful birds you will find in nature. You will find all the colors of the spectrum on
the Eastern Rosella parakeet. The head is saturated, bright red while the top wing
feathers are yellow and black with a hint of red on the edges. The undertail is very light
green while the top tail feathers are quite blue and quite long.
One of the most colorful parrots
of the world, the Eastern Rosella, a native of Australia, is bred in great numbers in the
US. Red, yellow, purple, blue, black, green and white are the colors seen in this
outstanding bird. Males are somewhat brighter than females but it is difficult to tell the
gender. They can be taught to whistle, talk, and may become quite friendly. As in many
parrots bred in many aviaries, there are several color mutations available. Normally the
head and chest are bright red with white cheeks and yellow nape. The back feathers are
black bordered with a green and yellow. The rump is yellow/green. Wings are purplish blue.

We call him DISTRUCTO BIRD. He loves to DESTROY things.
Anything that is in front of him gets sampled and chewed, usually to the point of
distruction. Once, Max found my wife's diamond ring in the jewelry case and gently pulled
the diamond from the setting and returned the diamond to the drawer. The ring was found
nearby with not even a bent prong.
His little white feather tuffs are so cute. I love to
watch him scratch and disrupt his white cheek feathers. After a good scratchn' he will
have smashed these white tuffs so hard on his belly that they are puffed out like squirrel
cheeks, It's so cute.
Not unlike other birds Max the
Rosella puffs up and squats as if nesting. Our bed is the daytime home of both of our
birds so Max will create a little nest in the top "bird" sheet on the bed and
nestle in. He can really puff his feathers, too. Looks like a big puffy pheasant.
